2016 Year In Review: My Year of GROWTH

As I sit here typing on this eve of the New Year, I am thinking about how absolutely giddy and excited I am about all that is to come in 2017!

2016 seemed to be a pretty rough year for many people. All throughout my social media feeds, I’ve seen countless posts with anticipation to end such a dreary year, and with hope that this upcoming year will be much better.

I am a generally happy, bubbly, and optimistic person (you kinda have to be when it is your job to motivate and speak life into others), but I must say that I experienced several challenges and personal setbacks this year that has me running to the finish line, and ready to leap into a year full of happiness, fulfillment, and abundance. In fact, I have declared that my word for 2017 will be LEAP.

Last year, I wrote my very first “Year in Review” post, and it was very therapeutic in a way. It was great to reflect back on all of the positive things that happened in my life as opposed to dwelling on the things that didn’t quite go as planned, or that downright sucked.

So, here goes…I bring to you my highlight reel of 2016:

Doubled My Number of Speaking Gigs

I achieved one of my top goals for the year, which was to double the number of speaking engagements that I had in 2015. Mission accomplished! Speaking and teaching are undoubtedly my two most favorite aspects of my business, so not only do I get to do what I absolutely LOVE, but I truly feel like I’m walking in my purpose every time I step on a stage or in front of a room. In 2017, I hope to keep it going by doubling my numbers again…and also to add INTERNATIONAL SPEAKER to my resume (Yes, I’m claiming it in advance!)

Launched My First Mini Course

This was a major accomplishment for two reasons: 1) I had been sitting on this idea for over a year, and finally took the time to make it a reality. I launched it as a mini course first, as a sort of test run leading up to the launch of my signature course, of the same name, that will be launching this year. 2.) I had absolutely NO knowledge of how to go about getting this done, but I didn’t let that stop me. I did the research. I implemented what I learned, and I DID IT. It was a lesson in not waiting until things are perfect, but instead, just getting started and improving as you go. I got a lot of really good feedback, and am so excited to launch the full course, in addition to several other courses, this year. Stay tuned!

Hosted My First Signature Event: Say YES to Your Dreams

Another “just do it” moment. I was going to wait until the new year to host this event, jut because I felt that January was the time when most people go into vision board/planning/goal setting mode. But I realized that mid-year was the perfect time to do an assessment of where you are in the pursuit of your goals and to get a little motivation to keep going. I’m happy to say that the event was a success! Each and every panel speaker was AMAZING and the women in attendance walked away with a lot of valuable information and the confidence to boldly walk in the direction of their dreams. Planning is already underway for the next event, which will be a little different, but equally, if not more, wonderful than the first!

Launched Moguls Give Back

I literally started Moguls Give Back on a whim! I wanted to find a way to give back to my community, and I figured what better way than to start my own initiative?! The goal was for my fellow entrepreneurs to band together and do our part to service our communities.  I reached out to my tribe via social media and was overwhelmed and thrilled at the amount of support it received. In the summer, we hosted a School Supply Drive where we were able to bless almost 100 students with all of the supplies they needed to have a successful school year. In November, we hosted a turkey giveaway, where we were able to bless 6 wonderful families. This could not have been done without the generous donations we received. A special thank you goes out to Kenya Kirkland of Shop 1323 for letting us host the first event at her boutique, and Shelley Mechette of The PowHERful Woman for being an official partner for the second event. In 2017, I hope to take these efforts to the next level by officially forming a non-profit 501(c)3, and hosting more charity events throughout the year.

Weight Loss Journey

My weight has been a big struggle for me for YEARS. Prior to being involved in the car accident that left me unable to walk for nearly 6 months, I was finally able to get a hold of it by dropping nearly 40lbs. Unfortunately, after that horrible ordeal, I just could not seem to get it back under control. The main reason was because I had on-going ankle issues that prevented me from working out the way that I would have liked to. This year, however, I decided not to let that hold be back anymore. I invested in a personal trainer (shout out to Lance Branchman) and finally started working toward my health and fitness goals again. In just the last two months of the year, I’ve been able to see a difference in, not only the way I look, but more importantly, the way I feel. Although the scale has only just recently started to be my friend (I wasn’t seeing much of a difference in my weight), I experienced so many non-scale victories, such as my clothes fitting better, loss of inches and a change in my body composition, better eating habits, and overall feeling healthier and stronger (I no longer feel like I am going to pass out after each workout lol). Also, its given me increased confidence that is showing up in other aspects of my life, and business. Therefore, I will continue training into the new year, and who knows…I may even run a marathon or two before the year is up!

Made Memories and Enjoyed Life

This was probably my most important fete of 2016…MAKING the time to experience life and make memories with those that I love. There is nothing like a near fatal experience to make you realize just how precious life is. Over the last few years, I’ve had this feeling that I’ve been merely existing, as opposed to living. This year, I can truly say I took my first steps to changing that by getting out there and making memories with my loved ones. After all, one of the main reasons I started my business was to have full freedom and control of my time, and because I wanted to live life on my own terms. In 2016, I finally figured out exactly what that looks like…

Took a couple of Kid-cations (vacays with the kiddos)…a road trip to San Diego and to visit family in Texas…

Nikola Ahaiwe - Time Freedom

Spent a lot of quality time going on family outings and experiencing fun, new places.

Nikola Ahaiwe - Time Freedom

…was even able to get in a few Mom-cations (without the kiddos) to Catalina Island and Washington DC.

Nikola Ahaiwe - Time Freedom

…and I made a conscious effort to get out more and support friends, family, and fellow business owners at their events, celebrating life occasions, and on their creative endeavors.

I know a lot of people that experienced quite a few challenges and hardships in 2016 (myself included), but it’s so important to take a step back and remind yourself of all of the things that went well, all of the things you’re grateful for, and the many blessings that you have in spite of everything else.

Now that you’ve had a glimpse into my year, I want to know:

What has 2016 taught you

MITM Entrepreneur Spotlight: Monique Moliere Piper

Today’s MITM Entrepreneur Spotlight features Monique Moliere Piper, aka the Thrive Specialist.  As a Certified Professional Coach and Speaker, she has taught women across the United States how to achieve greater success by getting their lives out of default and into divine design.  The author of “Dance in the Sun: Being the Authentic You”, Monique’s calling is to help ladies create lives they love. Check out her story…

Monique Moliere Piper - On Purpose Coaching

Name: Monique Moliere Piper
Location: Nationwide
Business Name: On Purpose Coaching
Years in Business: 6+

Are you a full or part time business owner?

Full time business owner

Why did you start your business?

I wanted to give women the support they need to live their potential, through coaching. Too many are sitting paralyzed in information overwhelm. Unsure and fearful of what steps to take next. My clients decide their next “On Purpose” actions, and break through mental barriers that has them stuck. In one sentence, I help women get crystal clear, strategic, and execute in their lives and businesses.

Monique Moliere Piper - On Purpose Coaching

What has been the most rewarding aspect of having your own business?

Honestly, the ability to get paid to do what matters most to me. I want women to know there is no ceiling on what’s possible, regardless of where you are, were, or where you are starting. Human potential has no ceiling. Our limited thinking does. Coaching and speaking allows me a unique opportunity. I teach others how to widen their window of what’s possible for them to achieve, and also “how” to achieve it.

What are your biggest challenges?

Juggling both family and career aspirations. I am a wife and mother first. However, “I know like I know” that my purpose on earth is to be of service to others. Another big challenge is consistency. This is an area I teach in workshops, in part, because being consistent is not a one time event. Life is always happening, learning to work on our desires through it all is an ongoing project. The plain truth, priorities do shift, home will need more of your attention during certain periods. The time one has to invest may change from time to time, but, investing time has to be a consistent commitment.

Monique Moliere Piper - On Purpose Coaching

What is the best business advice you’ve ever received?

The best business advice I ever received is, make a decision! A decision puts you in a power position, because you are in action. A wrong decision can be fixed. A right decision puts you ahead of the game. The worst thing you can do, is sit on the sidelines.

Do you have a team or are you a one man/woman show?

A small, incredibly devoted team.

Where do you see your biz in the next 5 years?

I see my business, influencing over a hundred thousand women to live their potential unapologetically.

Monique Moliere Piper - On Purpose Coaching

What advice would you give to other Moguls in the Making?

Gather enough information to take the next step. Collecting information alone, does not create a business. You must be willing to get your hands dirty. You are going to fail, that’s part of the process. So, fail fast. Use this formula: Action + Reflecting – Dwelling = Lessons. My second piece of advice, get a coach. If you are really serious about going to the next level. The most successful people have coaches for a reason!

MITM Entrepreneur Spotlight: Tiffany Lanier

Hey there, future moguls! I’m so excited to bring back the Mogul in the Making Entrepreneur spotlight series.  We took a little hiatus, with the craziness of the holidays, but I have a great lineup of super talented, inspiring, and passionate entrepreneurs to showcase over the next several weeks!

First up is Tiffany Lanier, of LiveWithTiffany.com.  Tiffany helps entrepreneurs fall in love with what they do, from wherever they want to do it by creating, packaging, and marketing their brilliance online.  Read on to find out how she fell into entrepreneurship “on accident” and how she plans to take her business worldwide!

Name: Tiffany Lanier
Location: Denver
Business Name: Live with Tiffany
Years in Business: Almost 3

Tiffany Lanier, founder of Live With Tiffany

Are you a full or part time business owner?
Full-time

Why did you start your business?
Well…I started my business on accident. I was planning to quit my first job out of college at a Startup as a Social Media Marketer to go to Costa Rica to “find myself.” I knew I wanted to do something on my own but I didn’t know what at the time. But I did know that working 9-5 wasn’t for me. Right before I bought a one way ticket to Costa Rica I was offered another marketing job at a local Marketing and Advertising firm but quickly discovered it was not for me.  I knew I didn’t want a job but at the same time saw an opportunity to learn from other marketers to increase my skill-set. But after only 2 weeks of working there the boss came in screaming at everyone for what reason I’m not sure. I was not a fan. Later that night I wrote him an email simply explaining that I wasn’t please with his level of disrespect and because of it, I could no longer work FOR him but I would consider working with him and the company, if he’d like to contract me.  To my surprise he said, “ok.” They became my first client and I started freelance marketing business.

Around the same time, I started a Women’s event business. And after about 20 months of mistakes and not being fulfilled later, I decided to start my Online Coaching Business, where I provide Business and Online Marketing coaching and strategy for entrepreneurs looking to build their personal brands online. I really wanted freedom to do my business anywhere I desired to be, as well as create a business that was scalable, allowing me to have several business models under one umbrella brand.

Tiffany Lanier, founder of Live With Tiffany

What has been the most rewarding aspect of having your own business?

Waking up every day knowing that I’m in control and that I literally create my outcomes.

What are your biggest challenges?
Some of the biggest challenges I’ve faced being entrepreneur was not knowing what I didn’t know and not having the capital to make bigger moves faster. I think those are two challenges most entrepreneurs face, especially in the beginning. I strongly believe it’s important to invest in help and support before you think you need it. Hiring a coach or a strategist, even if it’s for a one-time session, can give you more clarity than 6 months to a year of fumbling around.

What is the best business advice you’ve ever received?
“Charge what you’re worth.” You know why that’s so important? Because if you don’t you start to resent your clients and yourself which doesn’t allow you to love your business.

Tiffany Lanier, founder of Live With Tiffany

Do you have a team or are you a one man/woman show?
For the most part I’m a one-woman show, but I do outsource certain task here and there.

Where do you see your biz in the next 5 years?
Wow 5 years. My long term is 6-12 months lol. I see myself Speaking world-wide, continuing to coach and really expanding on retreats and Live events.

What advice would you give to other Moguls in the Making?
Start where you are. There will never be a great star aligned time to start your business. Take what you have and what you know and just take action. It’s better to build a little every day than to put it off for years and never start at all.

MITM Entrepreneur Spotlight: Amanda Loveland

Have you ever met someone who’s personality was so magnetic that, after just one conversation, you felt that their happiness and energy seemed to immediately rub off on you?  That was my encounter with Amanda Loveland, founder of With Love, LLC.  If you watch any of her videos, follow her on social media, or have had the pleasure of meeting her in person, you’ll know exactly what I am talking about!

Amanda is passionate about helping people build and grow businesses that make a difference in the world…oh yea, and making money while they’re at it!  She is well known for her unconventional approach to business that fosters dramatic and consistent results for her clients in record time. She is certified as a Dream Builder Coach through the Life Mastery Institute and as a Parent Coach through the Parent Coaching Institute.

Check out her story…

Amanda Loveland

Name: Amanda Loveland

Location: Sherman Oaks, CA

Business Name: With Love, LLC

Years in Business: 5

Are you a full or part time business owner?

Full time.

Why did you start your business?

I decided to help people make money in their business after years of inconsistent cash flow, struggling to pay bills, and working my tail off for little reward. The defeat that comes after putting so much time, energy and resource into something that you love and seeing it flop is devastating, and I knew there had to be another way.

I deeply believe that our income is a direct reflection of how well we’ve learned to serve the world, so the fact that I was making little to no money let me know I hadn’t yet figured it out. So, I made it my mission to impact the world in a positive way while generating an income that created a stable and freeing life for myself and my family. Once I did that, I realized how many other people needed help along that same path, so I started teaching.

Amanda Loveland

What has been the most rewarding aspect of having your own business?

I have the privilege of hearing the messages people were born to speak before the rest of world ever gets to hear them. Until the world learns how magnificent you are, I’m the one who learns from you and soaks in every inch of your brilliance. I feel tremendously honored to be a part of the story right at the beginning, and stand next to people while they raise the baby that is their life’s greatest purpose. It’s miraculous.

What are your biggest challenges?

My greatest daily challenge is talking myself out of a second cup of coffee. In business, my greatest challenge is stepping back and allowing my message to spread like wild fire like it is capable of doing. Through my own anxiety, or need for perfect, or doubts of who I am, I slow it down. I know that my message is powerful, but I sometimes doubt myself in the spreading of that message.

What is the best business advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve ever heard is from my husband, just last week. “I think it’s time you start learning from yourself.” I spend so much time reading, learning, and asking out in the world to make myself the absolute best I can be, and I often need to step back and remember how genius I am, and that I was born to do this. No one else knows the things that I know or does the things that I do, and there’s a reason for that.

Amanda Loveland

Do you have a team or are you a one man/woman show?

I have the best team of all time. My awesome assistant is my only regular staff person at this time, and I love her madly. I also bring in people for various projects, like website building (The Brand Gals are the shiz), event support, and graphic design. Crazy important members of my team are my accountability buddies who help me set and push to reach goals, my mastermind team which helps me to overcome my limiting beliefs and brainstorm ideas for business, and my best friends who listen to me vent without telling me to quit. I also consider my clients as being a part of my team – they inspire me every day to get up and keep pushing forward at a wildly fast pace. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today, and I’m constantly grateful for them.

Where do you see your biz in the next 5 years?

I see myself on stage in front of thousands of women in their 20s and 30s, spreading my message of being wealthy and changing the world. I also see myself as a published author. And, I imagine myself having an all-inclusive web platform for people desiring to build businesses that change the world, providing them the steps they need to do so along with connections and mentorship to help them along their path. More than anything, I see myself laughing and hugging, a lot.

What advice would you give to other Moguls in the Making?

Find no excuse why the world cannot be changed, and why you cannot do it.

MITM Entrepreneur Spotlight: Queenie Johnson

Happy Monday, future moguls! I hope you enjoyed your long weekend and were able to take some time away from working to relax and have fun with family and friends.

I’m happy to be back with another Mogul in the Making Entrepreneur Spotlight, featuring Queenie Johnson, M.A., founder of SheRises.org, a premier brand academy for enterpRISING women who are ready to up their game, step into their next level of success and achieve those seemingly impossible goals in life and business.

Queenie is such an inspirational woman of God!  Although I have yet to meet her in person, from our online encounters I can tell she has a genuine desire and passion for helping others succeed. Not only does she teach women how to uplevel their lives and businesses, she also runs a company called Distinguished Learning Group, an education company that offers academic tutoring, workshops, and a summer day camp for kids ages 7-12.

Check out her story…

Business Name: SheRises.org – Brand Academy & School of Success

Years in Business: 3

Are you a full or part time business owner?

Why did you start your business?

I started SheRISES.org because I wanted to create a place modern business owners could expand their Business, Brand & Brilliance
using biblical principles.

SheRises.org Logo

What has been the most rewarding aspect of having your own business?

I enjoy seeing clients get results, but more importantly I love seeing the impact that they have on others as a result of the work we’ve done together.

What are your biggest challenges?

When I first started it was learning how to blend all of my ideas, clarify my vision, but once I nailed that down I’ve been able to attract my clients and establish my brand perspective.

What is the best business advice you’ve ever received?

Focus on doing one to two things at a time, not five to seven. Your business deserves top notch focus.  When you’re doing too much, attempting to release all of your visions at once, you’ll end up splitting your energy, resources and brand presence. Get clear and stay focused. I know that this is easier said than done, but it’s the best advice that I can give.

Do you have a team or are you a one man/woman show?

I run SheRISES alone, but I do outsource a lot of my work.

Where do you see your biz in the next 5 years?

I can’t wait to see where God takes SheRISES.org.

What advice would you give to other Moguls in the Making?

Focus on your profit plan, marketing plan and client creation plan. Everything else is a waste of time. Period.
