A couple of weeks ago, I had the pleasure of attending the 2017 South LA Saves Power and Purpose Conference. What a great time it was!
I knew from the moment that the speaker line up was announced that this would be a powerful, life-changing event.
The conference started out on a high note as keynote speaker Jarim Person Lynn, wealth coach, author, and founder of Brass Knuckle Finance, took the stage to share the 7 Steps to Zero Debt. I've followed Jarim on social media for quite some time, and have even read one of his books, so I was really excited to finally have the opportunity to meet him in person. I love his direct, no-nonsense, tough love approach to teaching debt reduction, investing, and wealth building, and his presentation did not disappoint. Key take-away: 76% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck (yikes!) and would not be able to survive a period of extended job loss. Too often we mistake sacrifice for hard living. You have to reduce the things that take away from your cash flow and invest more of that income.
Next up, there was a panel discussion and q&a session featuring a talented line up of inspiring entrepreneurs. There were so many jewels of wisdom being dropped, I think my pen was working a mile a minute as I took notes! Some of my favorite nuggets:
Restee Collins, founder of The Blueprint Project:
Billionaire P.A. - Founder of Wealthy Minds, Inc.:
- You can have an abundance mindset even when you're in poverty. It's a choice.
- If you don't know something, go to Google to figure out how to figure it out! Don't allow what you don't know to cause you to be stagnant.
Deanna Dupree - Wardrobe Stylist, CEO Deanna's Style Haus
- Don't suppress your dreams to support someone else's ego.
- You don't have to be perfect to be successful.
Toushonta Hogan - Founder of Scentscational Soaps (whose product line is now available in Target stores...soooo proud of her!!!!)
- You don't have to be one dimensional. It's ok to be multi-passionate and multi-talented.
- Do what you do best and outsource the rest. If you can't execute something, find someone who can.
The session was wrapped up by keynote speaker Michelle Harris Collins, founder and program director of n
, sharing tips on how to be a Better You. It all starts with your choice, character, and competitive edge.
She went on to explain that you have no right to be underneath your circumstances (something I can definitely relate to). Your life is not only about who you are now, but also who you can become.
Check out a few more highlights from the day:
- Bad days don't exist. Any day that you wake up is a good day!
- Even when you feel like giving up, keep going. Your time will come.
A full house, waiting to soak up the knowledge by the power speakers and panelists!
Keynote speaker Michelle Harris Collins opened her presentation with an ice breaker, having attendees turn to their neighbors to give a gentle massage.
Panelists Restee Collins and Billionaire PA sharing a moment.
Power couple/speaking duo, The Collins, pose for a pic after shutting down the house with their jewels of wisdom.
Attendees networking during a short break between sessions.
Undoubtedly one of my absolute favorite moments: speaker Billionaire PA helping an attendee to stand and "speak her dreams into existence!"
Power panelists posing with host, the beautiful and talented Cortney Ren'ae, founder of Flourishe Media Group, who did a wonderful job of keeping the event flowing and the crowd on their toes!
I have to give a HUGE shout out to Rashunda Rene (pictured below on the left), founder of South LA Saves for putting together such a wonderful event. I've been to several of her events, and I have to say that I always walk away feeling empowered, uplifted, and motivated!
